Meet with your students in any public location-usually a library, church or coffee shop.

How Often:

Students and tutors meet once a week for 90 minutes. For continuity, we ask tutors and students to make a one-year commitment. Tutors and students adjust schedules for planned vacations and other commitments.

Students are adults who struggle with the English language. The two largest groups are Hispanic (84%) and Asian (12%). Non-English speakers have significant challenges adapting to everyday activities in our culture.

Who:

We know your life is busy. You tell us which day of the week and time of day you are available to teach. We find a tutoring time that fits your weekly schedule.

Comparing Student and Tutor Characteristics

Getting to know at least one person from another country with a different language helps expand one’s awareness of the great variety of human experiences. Just as the one person you meet represents his or her country and its customs, you may be the only person from your culture with whom your students get well acquainted.
